Land at Dublin’s international airport and head to the city center via taxi, coach or bus to start your Ireland vacation in the country’s capital. If you’re searching for what to do in Ireland, look no further than Dublin:
Where to stay: Choose a luxury hotel such as The Westin Dublin, an historic landmark, or a more budget-friendly hotel such as The Clarence located in Temple Bar, on the River Liffey.
Transportation: Dublin’s compact city center and Old Town is easily explored on foot. If your feet get tired, there are plenty of taxis, as well as light rail and bus services.
Relax and enjoy Ireland by train on your journey from Dublin to Killarney, your base for the next 4 days.
Where to stay: The magnificent Lake Killarney Hotel is on the shores of the lake just outside town, or, for something more cozy, consider Ardree House Bed and Breakfast, a 10-minute walk from town.
Transportation: Trains depart regularly from Dublin’s Heuston station to Killarney. Allow up to 4 hours for the journey. There are also coach services direct to Killarney.
Transportation: The Killarney Shuttle Bus service stops at all the major sites in the national park. It departs from the tourist office in town. If the weather is fine, rent a bike and cycle through the park.
Just a 1-hour drive from Killarney is the Dingle Peninsula, one of Ireland’s most astounding landscapes.
Transportation: For days 6-10 of your Ireland itinerary, we recommend you rent a car in Killarney so you can take your time on this part of the dramatic West Coast. Rental cars can be combined with hotels and flights in one of our Ireland package deals.
While there are 3 Aran islands, a daytrip is best spent exploring the largest, Inishmore.
Transportation: Ferries depart from Doolin out to the Aran Islands. The trip takes about 40 minutes each way. Once on the island, you can rent bicycles to get around.
Break up the 3-hour journey with a stop in the city of Athlone to visit Athlone Castle.
