This is actually a beautiful old hotel (100 years I was told), and in lovely condition. We enjoyed the sense of history and architecture! It was kept very clean. The beds were cozy. Room was not huge but large enough for comfort, with very high ceilings. (Expected in an older building). The staff were helpful and friendly, especially “Bernie” at the front desk check in.
We stayed to see Hamilton at the Orpheum, which is right across the street on the corner. One minute walk.
**The ONLY downside is the state of Market street itself, which is not the best hood, to be honest. I know the city is trying to clean it up, but expect lots of homelessness, open drug dealing, and bad smells. It’s not a place to take a walk. (But you can easily catch a train right outside the theater).
However, it was just myself (a woman) and my teen daughter and we felt entirely safe in our hotel. The theatre had lots of security outside and the streets seemed to be washed every day (smelled of bleach and cleansers). We also had good eats at the diner directly across from the hotel for dinner and breakfast. Also clean and reasonably priced.
I’d stay again to see a show.
